The HEB in Bellmead made the switch awhile back.  And now the HEB in Woodway has done the same: gone from self-serve digital produce scales to the cashier weighing everything as you check out.

The reason?  People were stealing.  They would buy the expensive or organic cucumber and type in the code for the regular one.  Or they would buy five apples but only weigh two and then slap the incorrect label on. 

I understand some people will look for any way to steal, cheat the system, whatever you want to call it.  And when the Bellmead store made the change, a lot of people said, "well that's Bellmead."  As if the people there were more dishonest and it wasn't unexpected.

But now it happened in Woodway.  There are a-holes everywhere.
