After the absurd bullying complaint filed by the father of a football player whose Fort Worth Western Hills team lost 91-0 to Aledo, there's been a lot of focus here in Texas on bullying.
According to state law each ISD has to have a way for parents and students to report bullying. Locally, that ranges from the bare minimum of a contact page where you can submit your form online to a more detailed description of bullying and what to do about it.
Midway ISD has a more detailed website with tons of bullying information. Go here to see the page. As part of that information, Midway has tips on how to deal with bullying. Some of the tips are good advice and some are common sense. But one should trouble all Midway parents: don't fight back.
The school district is telling your kid to do the exact opposite of what many of our parents (and probably what you would tell your kid) to do: fight back. That may not be the best route to take in every situation, but it most certainly is appropriate in some. I get the school district can't tell kids to physically harm other kids, but to explicitly tell them to not defend themselves is downright dangerous.
